    Default Fixed Broadband

What is the most reliable broadband available out there at the moment?I have eircom broadband but in the space of a hour it can cut out 5-6 times..is this normal or is it just an eircom problem..although it happens a lot less during the evening/night.

I'll tell my story on this, then you can decide whether to use this for anything.

I am a computer engineer, and the most important thing on my BB connection is the reliability of it. I have to be able to connect from home during evenings/nights/weekends and if I decide to work from home. With BT, I and around 20 colleagues in the department I'm in never had a single problem. Not one. BT was not the cheapest, but it was by far the most reliable BB service around in Cork at that time.
Then BT withdrew from Ireland and Vodafone took over. Well that is the worst thing that has happened to my reliable BB. Cutting a long story short, all 20 of us is now on different providers. Magnet, Digiweb, UPC. And we are all very close to being back the same level of reliability and speed as before.
None of us has gone to Eircom, because they are also considered a shower of something, but they are nowhere near as incompetent, moronic, downright rude cunts as anyone even remotely associated with Vodafone BB. What a shower of totally useless people they are. Don't believe me? Read this thread on boards.ie Home Broadband - evening speeds - boards.ie.

So whomever you decide to go with, don't go with Vodafone.

    And breathe.

What a coincidence,a few months back i happened to sign up with vodafone broadband stick.I was given a 5G usage limit that would cost 20 euro a month on pay as you go.Well anyways i signed up online put in the 20 credit and all was well for about 15 minutes when i got a message to say my limit had expired meaning i would have to top up another 20.Well needless to say i went back to the shop and asked for a full refund except for the missing 20 so i know how you feel.I would say to everyone out there to learn from my mistake and not sign up for vodafone broadband..complete joke.

I personally use Eircom and for the last year have never had a single problem. I use a different router than the crappy netopia one provided.
In work we use Eircom as primary and BT as backup and again never really had any problems, (the only outage was some tool in a jcb dug up the line).
I think all the providers have good and bad points. I wouldn't use a usb stick like Vodafone or O2 as the are a lot less reliable, stick with regular broadband but buy a decent router, you shouldn't go too far wrong.

What about the new next generation Broadband from Eircom. Its supposed to be the best on the market where you arent sharing with anyone on your modem so it doesnt slow down or cut out
