I find my mood goes up and down, not so severely that it is a major problem for me thankfully, but enough that I understand depression some. I think maybe it's partly a female thing with me. Jokes about PMT etc aside, I think there are certain times every month when I just feel really low and I wonder if that is hormonal, though it doesn't follow a perfect pattern enough for me to put it down to straight PMT. I get triggered by certain things too. Some things just get me down more than they should and as soon as one of my trigger things happens, I get low for a while. And the thing is, it's not until you can get out of the depression some that you can see you were in it, as when you are in it you just feel like your whole life is shit and the only thing you are being for feeling that way is realistic.

It's good to talk about it Harry, I'm sorry to hear that you're a little bit down, I'm in a similar situation, people close to me are saying that I should see somebody, but I feel that I am the eternal optimist and definately do not suffer from depression. To be honest, the only time I feel depressed, is when I haven't got the spondulas for a punt, I'm obsessed with the escorting business and can't get enough of it, all these beautiful women out there, oh for the time and the money to see as many escorts as MrFussy our leading punter, I wish I was in his shoes. So I can't really give you any advice Harry, as I'm not qualified, so all I can say is hang in there buddy and get the help if you think you need it.

This is a really serious problem Harry. This is not the place to seek solice. I hope you're getting real help. When you're taking it out on people who care about you, that's means you're in trouble and should get professional help.

    I wish you the best.....

I agree with debest on this one, professional help is the only way to go.I have never suffered depression myself but some of my family have and their only option was to go see a phyciatrist.Don't ignore the problem, trust me if it continues to go on it will only get worse.Good luck.....

I suffered a bit when I was let go from work.
Felt very dark and down a lot.
Drank a fair bit and had very bad thoughts about my ex boss, etc.
They only way of helping is to talk about it.
Either to friends and family or to a professional.
First step is knowing you have a problem and then wanting to get it fixed.

Hard part is admiting it dude. Now that you have, go out and do something about it.

    Best of luck dude!!

Patricia is right, although this isn't the place to get professional help, a release of any kind is a help and talking to anybody, even in the format here is a help. It's nice to know when you're feeling like this you're not alone and not the only one. Personally I've suffered in the past and have also been going through a bit of a bad spell lately and for some people a place like this can be a bit of a sactuary. It's important to recognise that you have a problem, it's symtoms and effects. Many people go their whole lives suffering from depression, stress and anxiety and never know it........

It can be as simple as just sitting down and talking to somebody..........

    Best of luck Harry..........

You have taken the right step by admitting that you may have a problem with depression, so now you have to decide how to move forward, my advice, its based on experience, is to seek out a Cognitive Behavior Therepist, this in my opinion is the best form of professional help you can get. Also I agree with those who say posting here is a good thing. Of course drink is the most deprssive drug out there, so staying away from that will help greatly. Dont be to hard on yourself, self analysis in a state of depression is counter productive. Take care and good luck.....

Hi all, very interested in Harrys situation. I suffered from depression all my life. Also i have an addictive personality from drink, smoking sweets anything. you have done the first thing right that is admitted to yourself and other people here that you have a problem. What i done secondly was told my G P who prescribed anti depression tabs not anything heavy but something like xanax which i find very good. I think everyone suffers a little bit from this every now and then. For instance i read these posts every day but do not post any as i feel i would make a balls of it. This is in itself low esteem, still when i meet people out i can be a great crack. Also keep talking, and it eases without you knowing it. I genuinely hope this helps you some bit. Cheers Madjack

I'm sorry to hear you are in the dumps Harry.. I have a few thoughts on the subject.. I dont know you.. but hope you wont mind my post..

Depression is a strange thing.. Its to me the body and mind trying to tell you something in your life is not right.. You may be trying to pretend everything is ok.. but the reality is that you cant fool yourself like you can fool others.. It could be that the job you do is completely unfullfilling.. You spend a huge ammount of your life there.. If its not a happy place to be.. then it might be time for a change.. That could be tougher to make a reality than just swapping jobs.. We all have commitments that tie us into jobs, relationships etc.. It might be that you can set your mind free by simply taking the first steps towards a change.. Maybe its deciding what you would really love to do and taking a beginner course on the subject and accomplishing a simple first step on a new road will brighten your days.

If your in a realtionship with someone long term and there are difficulties.. Maybe deep down punting is just not the right answer to other problems in a realtionship? This is something that you can help yourself with I would think.. Of course I may be way off the mark..

The other thing that comes to mind is a little more tricky as it is a difficult and willpower required area... Its fitness...
Are you a fit and healthy guy? I am not the most fit person in the world.. but I do find that excercise is a wonderful way to make someone feel good about themselves.. just knowing that you ran 5 miles today instead of the 4 you were able to do last week... The sense of accomlishment.. of doing something good for yourself.. Should help alot...

But at the end of the day.. I agree with what the others have said... There is no shame in speaking to a proffesional and getting help.. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes.. thats why these guys work in the field they do.. You may think you are week for going to see a counsellor but in reality you are a stronger man and far healthier of mind if you are able to take that step towards getting the help you need!

Went on a bit there.. Sorry the post is so long..
