    Unhappy our crazy health system

I have the use of a medical card due to a long term condition, I had problems with the oul' tummy the past few weeks they checked me over in hospital but after a few days werent sure what was wrong so they told me I'll have to see a consultant a specialist in that area & a few days later I got an appointment for a date 3months time! To make a long story short I consulted my doctor asked him could I see the consultant privately he smiled & said u can but it will cost, I woulda paid any monies so I got to see him privately for 120! within 2 weeks for 5 minutes! A few weeks later I went back for results another 80euro 5 minutes again he looked mostly at the wall most times when talking to me said I'll have to go on a course of tablets-200 for 10 minutes work!
    how crazy is that!!...

Very crazy. Same applies to people with terminal illnesses. If they are on the medical card they could wait up to 6 months or more for a consult yet anyone with private health insurence gets seen ASAP. Something that needs to be caught straight away for a realistic chance of recovery is is still made wait because they dont have the money. The poor suffer while the rich live on

What condition have you got (if you don't mind me asking) 200 tablets is a lot!!

I would discuss this on boards .ie, might get better response. And I hope you got receipts, can you claim back cost of consultation and tablets. And if you refused to pay for results, what would they do, withhold them, keep them secret. w@nkers!

I'm afraid health system in Ireland is a disgrace in my experience. Having lived in UK the last several years, it is amazing how good the NHS is in comparison. You see people complaining about NHS here, but if they'd lived in Ireland, they'd be kissing the NHS logo in thanks it's so great compared to Ireland. I think it is one of the saddest things about Ireland how bad healthcare is. I love Ireland, think it is the best country in the world, but healthcare in Ireland - Fucking shocking disgrace.

The mess in the public health system is exactely why all these vhi swiftcare clinics are opeing up - I needed an mri scan - choice was wait 6 weeks or go to swiftcare - paid my €240 and had my scan the next day - I would hate to have to go public - I fell for those who cannot take the private option - real fear is that you would be left on waiting list till your condition worsens or you die.
