Nothing in the rule book to say that a goalkeeper can't play up field , Schmiechel did it for United on many occasions,i would be more worried about the Labradors in south africa, you know what the Koreans are like

The rules have been there for years. The Koreans took a gamble and it backfired.
It is very rare for all three keepers in any team's World Cup squad to play in the tournament so Korea would have had the advantage of an extra outfield player to choose from.
