Can't find the camera. Tried to take a pis with the webcam but didn't come out great.Heres what it says when i start the computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \windows\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-Rom.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

Can you even enter the recovery console which is basically dos prompt, if you can try repairing the boot.ini. Here's a copy and paste on how:

    Here's How:
    1. Enter Windows XP Recovery Console. The Recovery Console is an advanced diagnostic mode of Windows XP with special tools that will allow you to restore the boot.ini file.
    2. When you reach the command line (detailed in Step 6 in the link above), type the following command and then press Enter.
      bootcfg /rebuild
    3. The bootcfg utility will scan your hard drives for any Windows XP installations and then display the results. Follow the remaining steps to add your Windows XP installation to the boot.ini file.
    4. The first prompt asks Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All).
Type Y in response to this question and press Enter.
    5. The next prompt asks you to Enter Load Identifier:.
This is the name of the operating system. For example, type Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition and press Enter.
    6. The final prompt asks you to Enter OS Load options:.
Type /Fastdetect here and press Enter.
    7. Take out the Windows XP CD, type exit and then press Enter to restart your PC.
Assuming that a missing or corrupt boot.ini file was your only issue, Windows XP should now start normally.
Tried to recover it already using the CD but when I was pressing R to enter the recovery console nothing was happening. This is why i tried to format it.

Whatever the case the last thing he wants to be doing now is switching it on and off chancing his arm.

Did ya try switching if off and switching if on again???

    Sorry, couldn't resist...........

Just scream at it for a while, that's what I usually do...............

When you try to power it up, press the esc button a load of times as it's trying to boot up and see what it says............

Some general advice for anyone who is reading this and doesn't want to be as unhappy as urslave is now:

    - Make regular backups. Sure it takes time, but much less time than trying to get your data off a dying or corrupted disk.
    - Keep your operating system and data on separate partitions. Actually, urslave did this, which is why formatting wasn't such a bad idea.
    - The first thing to do with a dodgy disk is to copy it's entire contents onto another disk. And I do mean the entire contents, from the Master Boot Record to the final sector. I would normally do this by booting linux from a live cd and using dd on the raw device node. There are perhaps ways of doing this in Windows, but I wouldn't ever use them. Windows tries to be clever and repair things, often breaking them further.

“I wish you wouldn’t keep appearing and vanishing so suddenly; you make one quite giddy!”
“All right,” said the Cat; and this time it vanished quite slowly, beginning with the end of the tail, and ending with the grin, which remained some time after the rest of it had gone.
