Child Porn very disturbing

I thought the Prime Time investigation regarding the accessing of child porn was really disturbing. It showed
how they tracked at least 1000 people accesing child porn in this country over a 30 day period. They were
located right across the country. If u spread this over a 12 month period and allow for log ins that are missed
the scale of this is pretty frightening

You are right,this is not porn.This digusting behaviour is completly unforgivable in my eyes.These 'people' should be named and shamed simple as that.I know it will not fix the problem but it is a start. Tighter retrictions must be put on the internet if at all possible but unforuantly that seems an impossible task.

We are talking about pornographic images of children, so i believe child porn is the correct term, i am not commenting on the horrors that are bestowed on these children to obtain these images just on the viewing of them

I'm with you ber, it's like whether we should call Hitler a "despicable tyrant" and the Nazis "evil" on Wikipedia. Of course we agree he was a heinous despicable man, that speaks for itself. But using good/bad adjectives on it without describing it doesn't help.

I think that the people downloading (and making) of child porn are a bit like the priests who were abusing children years ago. It's the people who are really sexually repressed that are doing this sort of thing because they don't see another outlet to their sexual desires...... another reason why we need to fight for the liberation of escorting in Ireland.

Not agreed. The technology is out there to track / trace the people that are doing this so thats what should be done, go after the offenders - why should the rest of us suffer Chinese or Aussie style internet restrictions because of the actions of the few.

If the RTE can get 1000 odd people in a month with 'civillian' technology just think how many the Guards could if they put their resourses into it, and had the backing of the courts. At the end of the day blocking it on the internet wont be a deterrant - these scumbags will find ways and means, but if the threat was there that the Guards would come knocking that would be the deterrant.

Slightly off topic but along the same lines, anyone thing a NBC Dateline To Catch a Predator style programme would be benificial here?

i only hope RTE have given all of the evidence they managed to gather with TLO to the Garda, these people need to be investigated and arrested. we all complain that the Garda go after easy collars such as prostitution etc. well what if they managed to arrest 1,000 of these fuckers in one month, we'd be throwing cash at them for increased budgets. There should be a proper media push on this as there was with headshops, make the govt do something constructive.
