Default iPhone keeps logging out EI??

Not sure if it's EI or my iPhone but it won't keep me logged in for the duration of the session. Every time I go to reply to or start a thread I have to log in again. Any ideas from those who are more tecno minded?

Could be something to do with Safari but I used to have an iphone and it never happened to me. I did have that problem with internet explorer on a few forums and changed my browser, not sure if that can be done on an iphone though.

Sorry, not sure. I use E-I on my iphone all the time and no problems. Are you selecting "remember me" when logging in? I do that.

    Default A few thoughts:

Having to login again and again does not sound like a problem caused by a network provider blocking access. It sounds more like something causing the E-I site to decide that you are no longer the logged in user.

Do you have the problem if you connect through WIFI rather than the O2 3G network? If you have a WLAN at home then, for one session with E-I you will show up as having an unchanging IP address. Also, you will most likely be the only person accessing E-I from that address at that time.

If it works OK for you over WIFI then most likely the problem is that something about the behavior of the O2 network is confusing E-I into thinking that you are a new session.

If it does not work over WIFI then the problem is most likely to be in the configuration of your browser.

I can think of two things that might cause your problem over a 3G network.

It may be that O2 are changing your IP address causing E-I to stop recognizing your session. They might do that as you changeover from cell to cell. (If you are unlucky enough to be sitting on an inter-cell boundary, that can even happen if you do not move.) You could get into the habit of visiting a site that will display your IP address such as: What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more... every now and then when you are out and about and looking to see if your IP address changes.

Another issue may be that several users are accessing E-I at the same time over the O2 3G network and, from time to time, they are all showing up as having the same IP address. That might also be enough for the E-I site to start demanding fresh logins.

Changing your browser effectively is not so easy. With one exception, all browsers allowed onto the iPhone are based on the same webkit engine as is used for Apple's standard browser. As I say, there is one exception and I would suggest that you try it. The Opera mini browser can be freely downloaded onto an iPhone and it works in a different way to other browsers. If you use Opera mini, all web traffic out of your iPhone will go to the Opera servers over an encrypted link and those servers appear to a website as your browser. No network provider would be able to block your access then. They would not even be able to see what you are doing. The guys at Opera would see of course.

Most importantly though, you would then have an unchanging IP address. (In Oslo.)

For what it's worth: Opera mini works just fine for me on E-I with an O2 Ireland iPhone.

    Thanks Sharkskin!
Plenty of good info for me to look into! Hopefully get to the bottom of it soon!
