Default Whats with all the movie remakes?

Just saw teh latest Freddy Kruger flick last night, and it got me thinking about all the recent movie remakes, such as teh Batman movies , Superman and even the new Predator movie. Has Hollywood lost its origninality or something

Well the Batman movies were very different and are really good, it was a "reboot" of the series and most people really like the new movies. Sometimes remakes work, sometimes they don't. The Count of Monte Christo is a good example of a movie that is vastly superior in its remake.

But I do agree that remaking a film that is already almost perfect is not a good idea. And I hate the way modern movies usually have to be about two hours or more long with boring clips with nothing happening in between.

David Cronenberg is actually going to be remaking The Fly... again (although the 1986 version is more a re-imagining than a remake).

I agree it is very weak, but when Hollywood is spending $200 mill (which seems to be almost the base cost for a summer "blockbuster" - did you see how much godsdamn Robin Hood cost?) they seem to imagine it is a safer bet with a built-in audience, either from TV, comics, or the original movie...
Though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I think you are right hollywood seemingly are running out of idea's at the mo.It seems they are making remakes of most of the horror franchises such as friday the 13th and a nightmare on elm street because they have a core fan base, have a main outline of the story before any thought is put into it all.It is't about the quality of the film anymore, it's more to do with money that they make at the box office with as little effort put into the production. It's simple hollywood has become lazy.
I have lived a life of regrets.

You will start seeing a lot more of the horror movie remakes as a company has bought up the rights to a lot of the old horror flicks from the 80s.
As far as I can remember The Freddy film is from the same crowd.
