The IRA's goal was a united and independent socialist dictatorship on this island......the number of TD's that Sinn Fein get's elected to Dail Eireann is a good indication of the odds against achieving that goal.

The key word in my post was "Modern Times". Initially the goal of the IRA was what you say but as time went on ,it became a goal of freedom of persecution for catholics. The desire for a united Ireland was still there but drifted far into the back ground.
