You see you're making the mistake of assuming Ted is in the same user group as you. With over 5000 postings in this forum alone you'd probably fall into the expert user category - an expert user has pre-concieved expectations on software functionality and performance. Ted is what is described as a novice user, novice users have none of these expectations. So while you might assume clicking a video will immediately play music or whatever, You shouldn't assume other less experienced users have the same expectations.

But even as a novice, to this or any site, I would have expect it to be reasonable to assume that the sound would automatically be enabled when I click on a video.........

Is this not the case on youtube and other such sites, even porn sites???

I'm sure some exist that don't automatically enable the sound when you click on the video, I just can't think of one..........

I guess the best way to explain the situation would be to consider say my father, novice user, using the site *shudder* or using YouTube - my mother wouldn't divorce him for using YouTube or visiting a porn site but there's a chance she would for visiting escorts, so each of these scenarios merit different treatment.

Sky News realised a lot of site visitors were visiting from behind corporate firewalls (ie site visitors were at work) and as a result they have the sound turned off on the videos on their homepage.

Each situation requires different treatment, considering the possible implications of your other half finding you using an escort site I'd have thought this particular use would merit extra security for the user.

I use headphones on the computer, never speakers unless I'm alone. So get some Cans (that means headphones).

I question the amount of thought that went into the whole user experience with this new escort video lark.

To illustrate my point I've created a persona - Ted

Ted's wife is knitting beside the fire. Ted's a bit bored and fancies something salacious, fires up the old 486 55mhz in the corner and jets himself off to escort-ireland.com, "Oooh she looks fancy" Ted thinks to himself he clicks her profile link. Ted flashes a quick glance at the wife, just to be sure like, there she is knitting away god bless her. "Whats that little telly thing at the bottom, I'll click it and see"....

Two weeks later, Ted's marriage of 55 years is over, he's living in a bedsit just over an electrical shop in Dorset St.

Poor, wretched Ted.

And Ted is probably the happiest he,s been in years..
