However, this has always been controversial. Some people will say that hurling and camogie are the same sport just played by the opposite sex..........

Thumbs down Soccer is fixed and the GAA is mean to the players.

I support neither. The GAA is a corrupt organisation where they look after the managment but not the players. While Soccer is corrupt as fuck where match fixing is everywhere. People gotta open their eyes to it.

I like pro-wrestling instead. Yeah its not a "real" sport but at least it doesn't pretend to be one. And as Irish people we have to celebrate the fact that the current WWE Champion is actually Irish. He's from Cabra in Dublin and the first non-American/Canadian WWE Champion in 16 years. But was he invited to the "Irish Sports Personallity of Year"? No he wasn't. Sad really because more people around the world will see Shamus carrying his Championship and beating the shit out people than any Rugby/GAA or Irish Soccer team ever. How sad, his shock win of John Cena didn't even make the papers here.

I love you brother Shamus. You make the Irish proud.

Ding ding! Mouse opens with a kick to the balls!

Sure, the skill sets for football and hurling (in particular) are impressive. Fastest field sport in the world and all.

But you know what? I hate listening to the baying of thickly-accented half-wits who would obviously be more at home in a pit of slurry than amongst civilised people. Whip! Lash! Pull hard on de ball! Gwan lads! Over de bar! Ah sure jaysus dis is fabbilous!

And there's not a week that goes by without a newspaper reporting "FIVE THOUSAND MAN BRAWL IN BALLYARSE GAA MATCH" with a picture of grannies bateing the shite out of the referee. Football is a filthy sport - there's loose elbows, shoulders, feet and headbutts flying around all over the place. A hurley is an offensive weapon. The GAA gives no shit that most of its players are thugs - I've never seen a player banned for more than a couple of months for deliberately causing injuries to another player. Brawls involving half the fucking parish are hilarious, but scary.
Must be something to do with our culture.

But seriously, Irish society traditionally rested on three pillars: the Catholic Church, Fianna Fail and the GAA. The first two misread the signs of the times and have fallen foul of the people as a result of their own arrogance and inability to deal openly with those whom they regard as being subservient to them. The GAA, to be fair, has got it's act together regarding many of it's anachronistic rules and practices and is now a far more open and all embracing organisation, though still one with a very traditional following. A lot of this has been down to progressive and far sighted leadership and the ability to work with other sporting organisations. At this stage, the loyalty of GAA members to their organisation probably exceeds anything that Fianna Fail or the Catholic Church could muster.

At the sporting level, it would take an exceptional soccer match to match the level of excitement of a good football or hurling game......plus the players are part of their communities and you don't need to subscribe to Sky Sports to watch them or spend a fortune to follow them in person.

racism...the gaa was founded on the principal to promote iris games and culture rule42.....we build the stadiums for our games...not our problem if soccer and rugby are still changing out of their car boots....with no proper facility of their own....no garrison game should be allowed play at our grounds...thats wat i think.......ira....so wat if thers a connection...who are you to judge any nothern team or player..who wish to commerate the hunger strikers..or..collect for political prisoners familys....u or i havent lived through the occupation like they have...so read ur history....and then u mite under stand

Would golf be a garrison game? How about boxing? Motor racing? Tell you what, let's ban the arse off every single Olympic sport - that way, we'd make a good start to make sure there are no garrison games played in this 100% Celtic Gaelic ginger-haired kilt-wearing sean-nós singing Guinness drinking Fianna Fail voting diddleyeye music playing country.
