    Does anyone know the best and safest way to put out such a fire ?

    Cover the burning pan with a damp tea towel.

    Turn of the heat source.
    Failing that run like hell

    good man doozer the damp tea towel is correct its just as well banned user wasen't waiting for me to log on to tell him or his house would be a car park now hope he enjoyed his chips

    just had a flash back to when i was still drinking......got home well drunk felt a bit peckish had the great idea of making some chips....turned cooker on ....put chip pan on cooker.......wakeing up in st james's with an I.V. in each arm and a tube down my neck......8 days later sent home with a truck load of steriods and inhalers.......2 days later bought a deep fat fryer with a theromstat.

    wont make that mistake again.
