Thumbs up New onthegame book by steve rogers

    Hey all,

I poped out to purchase the ‘onthegame’ book on Saturday as I intended to for awhile, and also because a thread was posted here about it and Sean Moncrief recently, which was interesting also. Seems like a grand easy-reading book. Is fairly insightful actually. Close to half way there. It’s not really exaggerated as much as I expected, a lot of it is genuine fact especially when it refers to this very website. Also seems to be very well researched, in general. ‘Brenda beauty babe’, who habitually posts comments about the other escorts pics, is mentioned 2 or 3 times already along with a few others from the site. The chap who wrote it has certainly kept a close eye on the site over last year, many direct extracts are cited, word for word. The book is very enlightening on why escorts become escorts, the damaging impact it has on them psychologically etc. refers to Ruhuma quite a good bit too. I know Ruhuma gets a lot of stick on the forums here but in fairness they do some genuine good for unfortunate women who are in difficult and often dangerous situations. There’ll always be some degree of exploitation in every country, one way or anyway. Granted it does vary considerably from a geographic context anyway. I think the irresponsible media went too far with the whole “oppressive Catholicism” (over 50% of the global population though) malarchy. Granted there’s bad apples in every organization but that’s a minority… such irresponsible exaggeration. As if religious orders have been sacred in other countries over the past century. Speaking of which Sunday independent says 17 young Gardai in Dublin are under investigation for leaking info from the ‘pulse’ system to criminal gangs, croukced hippocrits-the Gardai/policia. This country never ceases to amaze me. Meanwhile, the book is well written, covers a wide and in-depth approach to the modern existence of prostitution in modern Ireland.. I’ve become concerned as I was reading about HIV and similar issues. is quite worrying, I’ll definitely be booking one of these health checks soon, never know, is better to be safe than sorry. Of course regular sex with multiple partners who also have regular sex with multiple partners is obviously a big risk factor especially as material contraception is not 100% reliable. I didn’t realize the prevalence of HIV has increases hugely in Asia, east Europe and Russia, massively increased apparantly over last decade.. I have read many times though that South America is catching up with Africa so that’s been a concern for me over the last year. Much of the book does focus on the darker side of the industry but I can recommend it, good for easy light-hearted reading, 7/8 out of 10 so far.

Also I’m too old to be good with profiles, anyone know any easy way to upload pic onto my profile, beside username?

Further updates can be added on this topic if there happen to be considerable interest with this thread  Enjoy a nice day!

I skimmed through the book when it first came out.

I can understand how, especially for someone who doesn't know much about the industry, it could be an interesting read.

It wasn't so much for me, because I generally read what the papers say every week about prostitution, and there wasn't really anything new in it for me.

Essentially this book is by in large a book made up of various articles that can be found on the Internet, there isn't much in there that is actually original.

There were some things in the book that seemed to be incorrect information also.

For example I think Mr Rogers made out that the UK had brought in a law that made it an offence to have sex with a trafficked woman etc in 2008, when actually that law was only proposed by the government in 2008, it has still not come into force, indeed it may not ever.

But it looked to me like Stephen had not got that point, probably because he'd only used one article as his source instead of researched the topic properly and that one article had left him mislead. And when I start seeing mistakes like that, I start to wonder whether anything being said can be relied upon, it destroys the credibility of a book for me.

I have mixed feelings about Mr Rogers. I think he's probably not a bad bloke and not a bad journalist but I think he has been too easily led by the Ruhama types in this book. I think if he wants to be a really good journalist, he needs to stop being so easily led by Ruhama etc.

I'm sure he'd probably take that as an insult, but it is not meant to be. I think he could do that if he wanted to, I think he's not an inherantly biased type, he has the potential to be open minded and take a closer look at this industry and come up with some really good stuff.

I'm sure he's not interested in my feedback though, "the people who run websites are abhorrent" according to his book I believe!

Nearly forgot, this is the website for the book - http://www.onthegame.ie/ - and there is a link there to buy it online direct from the publisher, or of course Amazon will have it I'm sure. Other than that I expect you can probably get it in most branches of Waterstones or Hodges and Figgis in Ireland. I got it in Hodges and Figgis on Dawson Street a couple of weeks ago.

Also, sorry but Stephen Rogers is the biggest lurker going!

And I thought it was quite rude of him to take so much content from this website and then not send me invitation to his launch party - Book turns spotlight on prostitution | Irish Examiner

I wasn't actually going to go but I'd promised Westside I'd give him the invite and they'd be canopies and free drink ;-) Poor Westie is besides himself

Doesn't anyone find it a bit odd that MrBee just registered this exact month and then comes on plugging this book acting like it's a "great read"???

I don't understand why people are being positive towards this, the whole book is designed to denigrate and attack prostitution in Ireland and is going to be filled to the brim with false information and nonsense.

The rapid rise of "HIV" in other countries is because many unscrupulous doctors are diagnosing all sorts of diseases as being "HIV" now. In some places it's literally just you go in, the doctor looks at you and says you have HIV and pushed pills until you drop. Many prominent scientists disbelieve any such thing as HIV or AIDS to begin with....but don't confuse that with ridiculous misdiagnosis leading to "rapid rise in HIV numbers". The HIV/ AIDS Story is Being Rewritten

It's beginning to sound like the author relied heavily on material from organisations such as Ruhama, previous articles on the subject and anecdotal material from here, rather than undertaking much original research work.......but then, I believe he's a journo and not an academic.
