    Default John O Donoghue

    From MSN News

Sinn Féin has called on Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue to resign, claiming his position is untenable given 'a continued waste of public money' since he took the job.

The call comes just hours before the Dáil resumes after a break for the Lisbon Treaty referendum.

Labour and Fine Gael have criticised revelations about Mr O'Donoghue's expenses, but have not called on him to resign.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has called for the matter to be discussed at tomorrow's meeting of the Oireachtas Commission - the body that runs the Dáil and Seanad.

He wants Mr O'Donoghue to reduce his staff, dispense with his special adviser and pay back any expenses not related to his official duties as Ceann Comahirle.

However Mr Gilmore said he was not sure that the best way to deal with it was through the Commission.

He said that body deals with administrative matters, whereas the current controversy is now a political issue, which goes to the heart of the credibility of the political system and respect for it.

Mr Gilmore said those issues have to be addressed by the leaders of the political parties and that was why he had written to them proposing a meeting.

He said that to date, he had had no response to his proposal.

The Labour leader said he believes the office of Ceann Comhairle has been damaged by the controversy over Mr O'Donoghue's expenses.

What are the chances of any of this happening?
Slim and none I would say
