Default The Right Hook on Newstalk

I missed it but I hear Denis Naughton was on telling us that Ireland is going to be the new sex capital of Europe!

    www.finegael.org - news

Me wonders why our European neighbours would come here to buy sex given it is so much cheaper and more widely available in so many other European destinations?

What about you ladies, ever met a client who flew into Ireland specially to sample Irish escort services?

It’s time that Ireland hit the demand end of this multi-million euro illegal industry.- Denis Naughten TD
Surprised the present government haven't considered legalising it so they could tax it

We'll have to get clarification on this. Last I heard the law proposed in UK is very similar to Irish law, but given UK law is not in place yet and still being debated maybe it is hard to know what it will be exactly. I'll see can I find out later today.

It was a bank holiday Monday so a slow news day any politician worth his salt knows that programmes like the right hook have 2 and a half hours to fill so a press release with outlandish claims about the sex industry is likely to get a 15 minute slot and raise your profile especially if you throw in a bit of trafficking and top it off with child prostitution and a dash of HIV and other stds.

If your lucky it might be picked up by the morning papers who are trying to fill space as well

Naughton can now leaflet his constituency mentioning the hard work he is doing in the law and order area. Blah blah blah

just another example of lazy journalism and shrewd politicians taking advantage of the lazy journos.

Agreed, Ireland has among the poorest news-media on earth...often the 9pm news on RTE 1 is like a collection of press releases from the Garda Press Office and various government departments being read-out, accompanied by stock-footage.

And they want to increase the license fee!?

And our politicians are no better - what a collection of mediocre half-arses! Even the various parties are in a bit of a bind due to the low calibre of person making themselves available for office. In the last local elections the Labour Party seemed to get around this by selecting attractive female candidates and hoping for the best.

Sweet Krishna's Kettle -- what sort of an effing country is this?
