I am watching an excellent natural history documentary this evening.

Part of it deals with Elephant Seals and their quest for a harem and then all the work that follows to defend from outsiders and of course also keeping the ladies happy as it were.

It must be enormously gratifying to one of the alpha males to survey all that is theirs.

On the other hand the level of sexual frustration amongst the omega males must be utterly soul destroying.

The market for elephant seal prostitution is positively bursting.

I know that there are quite a few species which practice this, just imagine it was ours. What a world that would be.

Or do we actually practice it ?
