    Default Sunbeds

    See there is new research out that proves sunbeds are even more harmful than first thought
    Regular users under 30 are 75% more likely to get a skin melanoma,also a higher risk of
    ocular melanoma,its is as dangerous to be exposed to a Sunbed as to be exposed to Asbestos
    or to smoke
    Ladies the risks u take in the pursuit of beauty, and the above is not taking in to account the
    premature aging which results, often the dead opposite of what is trying to be acheived.
    Banning of their use for anybody under 18 is being considered sounds sensible allround
    Ahh if only to be in possesion of an elixir for eternal outh and beautyy

    Quite right ber. I've seen examples of ladies who used sunbeds or UV light tanning over a period of many years (not escorts I hasten to add) and in general it aged and hardened the skin to the extent that they looked almost leathery. Even the dreaded tan from a bottle has to be better than sunbeds.

    Just a thought i had after posting the original post.
    This is a Question for the ladies, how far are u prepared
    to compromise ure health in the search for beauty.
    This is a serious question as already u do so many things
    which are really bad for u eg high heels really bad for ure
    back ankles etc prolonged wearing does permanent damage
    The amount of chemicals u use on hair , make up etc
    aforementioned sunbed or tanning of any type lets not
    even get into the cosmetic surgery debate but lets just say
    if u were meant to have a couple of kilos of silicon in ure
    chest ud have been born with it
    In all of this i havent included the amount of stress u put ure
    self under if u feel u dont look well thats not good either
    I await some female input with intrest

    with more against than for.I asked a guy i know in the US about this stuff last year and i got a pretty good response.I will see if i still have his reply and if i do i will stick it here.

    have a read.Its interesting stuff.I had a skin rash at the time and was considering using sunbeds.I didnt in the end because the skin rash was due to me not getting meds for athroat infection.

    Here is what he says,

    A skin rash is a reaction and a symptom to something else higher up the chain in the body, so to simply treat the rash (symptom or cause) is not the same as addressing the underlying cause. Please keep this in mind.

    Having said that, however, you question is about tanning beds.

    The two main types of ultraviolet rays that we should be concerned about when talking sun exposure and tanning beds are UV-A and UV-B.

    UV-A is primarily responsible for darkening the pigment in our skin. Most tanning beds have a high UV-A output, with a small percentage of UV-B. UV-A is less energetic than UV-B, so exposure to UV-A will not result in a burn, unless the skin is sensitive or excessive doses are used. UV-A penetrates more deeply into the skin than UV-B, due to its longer wavelength.

    The ultraviolet wavelength that stimulates our bodies to produce vitamin D is UV-B. It is the primary cause of sunburn. However, UV-B initiates beneficial responses, stimulating the production of vitamin D that the body uses in many important processes. Although UV-B causes sunburn, it also causes special skin cells called melanocytes to produce melanin, which is protective. UV-B also stimulates the production of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH), an important hormone in weight loss and energy production.

    If sunlight is not available in your area because of latitude or season (read IRELAND), then special sunlamps can be used to provide a natural balance of UV-B and UV-A. Although not that mainstream just yet, these lamps provide a safe equivalent of sunlight and will not cause burning or even heavy tanning. “Typical” tanning beds are not acceptable as a means of getting your daily dose of vitamin D because they provide high levels of UV-A and very little UV-B so my advice would be to find one that carries these newer bulbs that provide both A and B or perhaps order them yourself.

    The current suggested exposure of hands, face and arms for 10-20 minutes, three times a week, provides only 200-400 IU of vitamin D each time or an average of 100-200 IU per day during the summer months. In order to achieve optimal levels of vitamin D, 85 percent of body surface needs exposure to prime midday sun. It is recommended that light skinned people get 10-20 minutes of exposure while dark skinned people need 90-120 minutes.

    So, if you can find a tanning bed with lamps that provide a good dose of both UV-A and UV-B then I am in favor of them. If not then I guess it is up to you; but now you know.

    We knew it all that sunbed is not the healthiest thing in the world, but I think this is a very scary new, for every women who wants to good look, and jus feel good.

    I am just aking, what else could be helpful for us if we just want to get some tan and "sunshine". As we all know we don`t live in a ccountry where is that much sunshine, which can be also very unhealthy, as many of us suffer from depression, stress. This is because we have no sunshine at all.

    Do you have any ideas?

    what u are talking about is gaining the benefits of sunlight,but the vast majority
    go on sunbeds for a tan, u hear people saying about how another person had a fine healthy looking
    tan, well there is no such thing a tan is the bodies effort to protect the skin once u tan u have harm
    done, in my everday life i am outdoors and am tanned on arms etc and deff burn first.
    Not in the too distant past i lost somebody with skin cancer,it was attributted to their outdoor lifestyle
    and believe me it wasnt nice to see a healthy active person disentegrate before ure eyes in 3 months
    Personally i believe in 15 or 20 years time a heavy price will be payed for sunbed use and our
    foreign holidayys in the sun

    As the big yin says there's no such thing as bad weather...jus the wrong clothes, get youself a nice big comfy rain coat and LIVE A LITTLE!!!

    oh thanks I know that, I have that comfy rain coat already, but you know I prefer umbrellas, I never get bored of them, as I have to change them every month, they cannot get over this windy weather

    Superb advise
    as i already said once ure skin tans u have damage done so unless u use an artifical tan
    u cant tan without doing harm so the choice is urs ure health or ure look
