Well, we don't know what's going to happen, but we can at least try to save ourselves and our descendants and protect the rights of our relatives. What makes us superior to them?! Bigger brains?! That's all it is really... they are the same as us in every other way. Look, I'm not saying that we should treat them exactly as equals, but what they're doing now is committing genocide against them! Making their species extinct!!!!

Maybe there'll be a huge shift in policy. Just because you own a gun doesn't mean it's going to go off. Right now it's as though there are loaded guns and grenades being handed around by little children, but that might all change.

There could be a major accident at some point and then people might see the error of their ways. There's supposed to be projects underway for sending humans to outer space so that they might live there, grow crops etc. there without depending on earth. Personally I doubt that will happen in our lifetime, but maybe we could survive.

What makes us superiour to them is our ability to reason

People argue that, but what is "ability to reason"? Is it just a way for humans to propel themselves as being somehow higher up than animals...?

Orangutans are the second smartest species on the planet (despite primatologists previously thinking Chimpanzees were just because they're closer to their evolutionary heir fool the Human).

Orangutans can reason just as well as you or I. They just lack the raw brainpower because their brain is only 1/3 the size of ours. For that reason they don't grasp language very well (but they can be taught it and taught to say things through it)... they don't speak to us so people think they can't reason?

That's ridiculous. And anyone who has ever had a half-smart cat or dog as a pet at home will know animals can think and feel emotions and so on just fine.

Unfortunately Orangutans may now be going extinct. They're starving to death as their homes are being cut down and destroyed and their own lands and being made extinct. Please try to fight against it in whatever way you can. You would starve as well if your home was torn apart and all your food robbed. This world is going down a very, very bad path and will probably end up in extinction for all human life if we don't fight to change it....
well at least look at the positive side we are after locating Nads wheelbarrow

Hold on a second, I have never said that animals dont feel emotion, but thats not being able to reason or think abstractly. Now as reguards brain size, we dont have the biggest brains on this planet

Funny how a thread about an avatar turns into a debate about Animal Rights.

You might enjoy this quote from Voltaire

Hold then the same view of the dog which has lost his master, which has sought him in all the thoroughfares with cries of sorrow, which comes into the house troubled and restless, goes downstairs, goes upstairs; goes from room to room, finds at last in his study the master he loves, and betokens his gladness by soft whimpers, frisks, and caresses.

There are barbarians who seize this dog, who so greatly surpasses man in fidelity and friendship, and nail him down to a table and dissect him alive, to show you the mesaraic veins! You discover in him all the same organs of feeling as in yourself. Answer me, mechanist, has Nature arranged all the springs of feeling in this animal to the end that he might not feel?

    — Voltaire (1694–1778)[14]
