    Default The ROCK

The Rock truly is a mans man
He is retiring from hurling because next year the wearing of helmets is to become compulsary
As he says he feels it should be his decision whether to wear one or not
Actually very hard to get used to helmet if u never used to wearing one
and there is nothing to spur on ure team mates than to they see ure
prepared to spill a drop of blood for the cause, have the scars myself to
    prove it
U regularly see guys who wear helmets throwing them off when the battle
heats up Brian Corcoran stopped wearing a helmet towards the end of his
career.Tommy Walsh of late always seems to throw it off near the end of
games and it kinda makes a statement i mean buisness now
Well back to Diarmuid he gave many happy memories he was a good un
Always remember the day against Limerick that he grabbed the sliothar
burst out of defence knocked over a guy who tried to shoulder him and
from must be 85 meters put the ball over the bar if that wouldnt rouse u
u wouldnt have blood in ure veins
He will be missed as i think his type of player are scarce now like Brian
    lohan of clare
    well we have the memories
and hope he has as many memorable moments with Highfield in his new sport
Think he has 5 munster and 3 senior all ireland medals a fine collection

A top class hurler and no doubt Ber.....

Your right, a helmet is hard to get use to and although many see it as an individuals decision I think the thing is that helmets are compulsary at junior level and the seniors should be seen as role models to the next generation of national sports stars.......... Leading by example and that sort of thing............

as much as i hate disagree with my fellow rebel , but i take it u are referring to article in the the indo.
it was the most creative pice of journalism ,i read in along time time .

There actually is no direct quote from him saying he was retiring for this reason nor does it say he not playing with cloyne next year.

Cant agree with u,ure imposing something on an established player that could
    really adversley affect his game
Prob here is were gone too soft and pc its a mans game let it be optional and
surely the player should be entitled to decide himself.
As u said the next generation will have been reared with helmets so why not let that me
    the cut off point

What may be seen as an adverse affect on play may be a big improvement on health........

The problem is that younger players now see players like him and say why should they have to wear them when the seniors don't have to................

I agree it is difficult to find a cut off point, but it's going to come in eventually and it has to start somewhere............

    Default The Cat Laughs !

If he was a truly strong man then why did I see him cry like a little baby when getting torn apart by the kings of hurling from Kilkenny.

PS Helmets are handy for protecting that area of ones body which contains the brain. Rather a surprise than any Corkonian would ever need one.

Danny La Rue, Graham Norton your boys took one hell of a beating.

    Kilkenny Pop 87,000 (31)
    Cork Pop 480,000 (30)
