    Default Greedy landlord

Always liked my landlord until I received my new lease off him in the post this morning. Been living in the apartment for 5 years, seen my rent rise from €1200 to €1850 over the course of those years, which annoyed me but I liked the place and wanted to stay. Lease is due for renewal in a month's time and he called me last Friday to have a chat about if I want to stay. I said I'd be happy to stay once the rent doesn't increase to much. He told me there would be no increase in rent this year as it would go above the 4% cap which delighted me. This morning in the post came a copy of the lease which to his word the rent is €1850, but that now does not include parking. If I want to keep my parking spot I have to pay an add on of €150 per month. How sneaky is that eh not a word about it on the phone. According to guy in the apartment next to me it's the new thing to get more money. If I don't agree to pay it the landlord will rent it to someone. No surprise to say the landlord won't answer his phone to me.
Anyone looking for a roommate because I'm moving

most are increasing and you can't blame him, just so much demand now for all properties and I myself will increase the rent when my tenants leave at the end of the month.

Have you tried telling him that if he reduces his escort visits to two per month and do thirty min bookings instead of two hours he could afford to maintain your rent at an affordable level. This in turn would allow you to make up the difference in escorts income by doing more two hour visits instead of your current occasional thirty min.

This article talks about exactly this trick.

This is a fine example of why Irish people are "obsessed" with owning their own home.

Memories are short. People can only take so much.
Ireland used have ways of dealing with rogue landlords.
I can see those days coming back again.
My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.

I can blame him. He told me face 2 face there wouldn't be any increase, then sends a lease with a letter saying if I don't pay for parking he'll rent to parking spot to someone else. I've been living there 5 years, in that time I've never missed the rent once,
A few months ago I replaced the bearing in the washing machine myself, saving him buying a new machine. He's never had a complaint about me an this is how he treats me. Nothing but greed. And he still won't answer the phone, Sent me a text message saying he'll deal with issue over email only.

Just be fair to him and keep paying the rate you verbally agreed, there is nothing he can do to get you out. just stay there - he physically cannot move you. Landlords have little rights in this respect, it will take him ages to get you out through legal means.

The RTB process will takes years for him.

I’d Simply tell him you verbally agreed something with him and you are not moving and he can go through the legal procedure if he likes and tell him you are staying there for now. Very little he can do.

You could squat there and pay him nothing and there is fuck all he can do too, but that’s just being a bollocks to be honest

#still has enough decency / conscience to be ashamed ... == >> a dying breed as is .

I got played the same way on shortlet Lower Baggot Dec 2017 @ 1000€/week : advertised WITH parking .

Once I signed , ‘ooopps’ >>> cost me an extra 500€/month to park .

: cut my time in Dub short , just for being absolutely disgusted with the greed and being taken advantage of :

: mind you , I can well afford to pay it , but f*ck ‘em for being duplicitous . *I* can walk away ! X
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

Eh?? Your first sentence has no logic. Perhaps the reason he can pay the rent is because the well-paid job is here and he won’t get that job abroad. Everybody’s situation is completely different. This is about his landlord lying to him and extorting him...nothing else
