Default Buying sex should be illegal, says CARE

    Article from Christian today

Christian Today staff writer Mon 25 Feb 2019 12:31 GMT

Christian social policy charity CARE has launched a new campaign aimed at changing Britain's laws on prostitution.

The charity's 'not for sale' campaign argues that a way of protecting people in prostitution is to criminalize the purchase of sex, shifting the burden of blame onto the buyer rather than the seller.
    Brothel
ReutersCARE is campaigning for buying sex to be made illegal.

At present in England, Wales and Scotland there is currently no law that says it is illegal to buy sex, though Northern Ireland made it a criminal offense in 2015.

Buying sex is now illegal in Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Canada, France, the Republic of Ireland and Israel.

According to CARE, evidence from Sweden shows that the law has been effective at reducing the demand for paid sex which in turn means the country is now a more hostile place for human traffickers.

CARE says many of the women who find themselves in prostitution were abused as children, had difficult or traumatic childhoods, or suffered from some other vulnerabilities such as substance abuse, or were destitute or homeless.

It says it is vital to reduce the demand for prostitution as well as providing clear exit pathways and support for those wishing to leave.

CARE's senior policy officer for human trafficking, Louise Gleich, said: 'It's time for Westminster and Holyrood to change our outdated laws on prostitution by following the evidence and Northern Ireland's lead by criminalizing the purchase of sex.

'This is why CARE is launching the 'not for sale' campaign – to highlight the need for new laws to protect some of society's most vulnerable people.

'There's really great work being done by organizations to support and care for victims but if we don't change the surrounding environment to help prevent people from being exploited then more and more people will be going through the same cycle.

'For too long people trapped in prostitution have been largely ignored by our policymakers: this must change.'

You could basically say this about most of the people in this world today and not all of them are in sex work.
They have more likely decided to only publish the minority of the stories and tried to sound as if the majority of the working girls have been in sort of a problem.

If they do claim that this is one main reason why people turn to sex work, then they don't need to make sex work illegal, but to work on the source that has driven people into sex work.
Such as helping the people that were abused as children, had difficult or traumatic childhoods, or suffered from some other vulnerabilities such as substance abuse, or were destitute or homeless.

For a start, homelessness is something that the countries government need to tackle and could easily rehome these people in to a home, even if it is temporary which would lead to ending homelessness.
But as we know, their greed for making money on the empty homes is the problem that is stopping it.

Are u kidding? Vulnerable? What the f..k are u talking about? I felt more vulnerable when i was working normal job when my boss was a nasty bitch and i was afraid all the time to not loose my job as our boss keep telling us :'' if u dont like u free to go , plenty of people waiting at the gates to get a job here'' . Escorting actually
i will consider empowering for a woman, to be your own boss, to decide who u see, when to work, to have your own money and not depend of a schedule, something i will call INDEPENDENCE not vulnerable for God sake. If u talking about women forced into this job then is another story and u should concentrate your efforts to catch the aggressors and save the victims but dont come here and say bullshit like we all are vulnerable victims ... Jesus everybody lie but this people are champions how can they talk with so much callousness about ''evidence' what evidence woman? Come with actual cases of pimps prosecuted come with facts not with statistics , Actions speaks louder then words... where are the facts? the evidence? Come one put them on the table. the EVIDENCE of we ALL escorts are 'vulnerable victims' as u say and whats the all shit about:''CARE says many of the women who find themselves in prostitution were abused as children, had difficult or traumatic childhoods, or suffered from some other vulnerabilities such as substance abuse, or were destitute or homeless.'' Are u for real??? I never been abused in my life, u are the only who abuse and insult us with your low opinion about us, traumatic childhood? many kids will want to have my parents i had believe me ,
substance abuse? i,m sure u drink more then i do couse i dont drink AT ALL, no smoking, no drugs , destitute or homeless? I,m not saying not exist such of people, women, yes i,m sure exist and still u should appreciate they work as escorts to make their money rather then steal, live on benefits or beg on the street ... they work , Escorting is WORK woman . U intoxicate the general public with your twisted views following your agenda to kill this old profession. FIne! we understood this but dont come here with this big lies with evidence and statistics all are bullshit . Stupid feminist or religious brainwashed people. When will u open the eyes? WHen? I,m sick of this lies

There are plenty of men escorts, TV or just male escorts. Its an open minded society this days, Men can choose as well to be escorts I see most of the excuses guys come up with is 'not good looking' but everybody is looking different, not exist a standard look for being escort, like girls, we all different, young, old, slim, chubby, bbw, beauty come in all sizes and shapes and everybody woman or man have their admirers . But take courage, like in any jo the fear of unknown, the first meeting with the client is like first meeting with an escort but once done then is easy u see is nothing to be scared about I remember my first job hahahah the guy wanted Domination and i had not any idea what is that lol . is a funny story and always i remember with a smile on my lips

The 'victim' story is only for general public to gain their acceptance and sympathy but when cops raid the places they dont treat the girl anything similar with being victims but as someone who willingly chose this job . I heard stories from girls who was raided with garda female looking down to them and insulting them asking 'why they chose to do this, she dont like to work?' and male cops talking not nice calling them names and generally making them to feel very low and inferior or to repeat what a girl who have been raided said : ''You just get left with a sense of worthlessness and not a part of society :-( '' Where is the victim approach there? Where is Ruhama then to step and say hey she is a victim lets try to 'save her from prostitution and offer her clear exit pathway bla bla bla#? she is nowhere around to protect the 'victims' and when cops take the girls money then Ruhama say thank you and put our money in her pocket for the... victims (?) . The sad thing is who claim they care about us and wanna help us actually they are first who ROB us. I will retire soon but i will remain with the conclusion that escorts and escorting world are the most misunderstood and between the most persecuted category of people. Sad

The definition of "trafficking" has become so vague that it's as descriptive as when Bush said "terrorism" or McCarthy said "communism."

They are purposefully conflating sex work & trafficking
