    Default Brewers Corner

This thread is for making your own Tax Free alcohol. The art of brewing is easy and you can add your own recipes here. It is a cheap and simple hobby which anyone can do. The air still is big in the states and slowly replacing the old copper pot still which was a invention of the Irish 100's of years ago and brought to America and Canada during the potato famine in Ireland by are ancestors(bless them)

I will also be adding wine, cider and beer recipes which are also simple and cheap to make.

You can make vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, Grappa(my favourite) etc very easily.

Different yeast can give you a different percentage of alcohol and you can even use bread yeast which is cheap as chips.

Actually your wrong friend. It is legal to own a cooper pot still and it is legal to own a air still. It is however illegal to make alcohol with a still. Having said that one can use a still for many things not just for making alcohol. Just one other use is for distilling water.

Also it is perfectly legal to make wine, beer and mead.

1st up mead. The oldest alcohol beverage in the world and some believe it was created by the Irish but dont tell a dane that(sorry floki)
So easy to make. Essentially all you need is honey, yeast and sugar but i like to add some yeast nutrient as well to speed the process up.
The drink itself is a bit like marmite ,you either love it or hate it.

Up next one of the cheapest and easiest wines to make. Wurzel's Orange Wine (WOW) for short. This only takes 1 week and 4 days to ferment. If you use 1 campden tablet per gallon it will clear in a day after fermentation but i like to let it clear naturally, the less chemicals the better. So in 2 weeks it is ready to bottle and drink. Again you can achieve a alcohol content of up to 20% depending on what yeast you use and how much sugar you add to the mix. The more sugar you add the more alcohol you get. However if you add to much sugar it will turn to vinegar.

I would not add more than 1 kg of sugar to stop this happening. I have added a english video as you cant get the American Juice over here.

You can make wine from any fruit juice you have in the house as long as it has no preservatives, If it does have preservatives you will need to boil it in a saucepan or a still before adding it to you demi john or brewing bucket.

Next Up Vodka. This is easy to make however the guy in the video makes a few mistakes. The most important thing to remember when making homemade Vodka is to use either spring water or water that has been boiled and left to cool.

Apart from that he has it in the bag.
