Default Name for world's oldest profession?

    People,

Call Girl? Courtesan? Escort? Prostitute? Rent Boy? Service Provider? Slut? Tart? Whore? Do you have your own term?

I am really interested in what the men and women in the adult industry prefer to be called.

    Regards.

    Regards.
Each term has a different meaning, some just slightly and some of those words are obviously very different. People use "escort" around here a lot, although that could partly because of legal rigmarole.

Call girl - This is supposed to be an upper-class prostitute. I think before the internet became prominent there was a lot more variability in the prices and social status of the girls... so the call girl would indicate a classy girl as opposed to a street hooker.

Courtesan - I'm not too familiar with this term, just meaning to sound better because it's french I assume.

Escort - This seems to be the standard now. I think it's a "nice" term and it also takes care of legalities. However it does mean a girl could legally take you to her room, charge you for 30 minutes, look shocked when you mention sex... and sue you for hundreds if you refuse to pay, no contest, AND sue you if you defame her for not having sex! Also, I somehow doubt that's what the "escorts" in the Rose of Tralee are there for.

Prostitute - This is probably the most accurate and correct term. Of course the media and others (often with a less straightfoward interest in beating prostitution down) have severe issues with prostitution and smeared the term for us all.

Rent boy - I think this is used more in countries in other parts of the world. I think it's mostly because the other terms are used for girls, you automatically think "girl" when yu hear "prostitute". You never hear of a "rent girl".

Service Provider - Almost the only time I have ever heard this term is as short for ISP... Internet Service Provider... "your service provider", I think it might be used for other things as well but not for prostitutes in my experience.

Slut - Okay, now you're just throwing out words. Do you really think a girl wants to be known as a "slut" for her profession? This is used as an insult for a girl who sleeps around a lot, sometimes using her body to get things, not necessarily a prostitute.

Tart - I don't know, but it doesn't imply prostitute as usually used or even sleeping with the neighbourhood. Maybe it started from prostitution. "that tart" is a lot milder an insult than "that slut" though.

Whore - Okay this definitely does mean prostitute, sometimes it can be used though in the same way as slut. It's meant to be a "bad word" and it's sometimes meant to undermine the person a bit. "you're a filthy little whore aren't you?"
