Two of the most highly regarded universities in The UK, Leicester and Strathclyde, have published the results of an extensive survey of sex workers in Britain - 'Beyond The Gaze'.
Sorry about the sensationalist headline in the newspaper link -

Their research indicates -
Sex workers take home, on average, over £27K a year - and more than half of them earn less than £20K.
High earnings were often a result of more hours put in.
10% of the women earn more than £50,000, according to the study.
Sex workers reported high levels of job satisfaction due to their ability to make their own decisions about what work they choose to do. This really puts TORLEr nonsense in its true perspective.
More than 4 in 5 said the internet allowed them to work safely and to get help from other colleagues through social media and messaging apps.
Teela Saunders, one of the main researchers behind 'The Beyond The Gaze' survey said -
"Current laws and continued structurally embedded stigmatisation of sex work means that many online sex workers remain invisible behind the screen, denied access to full labour rights, full citizenship and access to social justice, pushed increasingly by current laws to work behind the screen."
