Pretty disturbing overall and I doubt the statistics have improved in the last couple of years.

A fascinating article, and a few things stand out for me.
Although it is possible they made technical errors, I am impressed with the police getting their man. It was not straightforward, and you can't fault their attitude in that particular case.
Jurys will always be a lottery. I served on one once, and was shocked at the lack of intelligent thought, and the lack of detemination to do a decent job. Several of them just wanted it done and dusted quickly so they could get home in time to watch football.
The judge in the first trial clearly didn't agree with the jury. If he thought there was no assault, he would never have given that sentence for witness intimidation.
The two year sentence in an other case for rape of a sex worker is disgustingly low. No prizes for guessing the judge's thought process.
The statistics for the number of things reported to Ugly Mugs are an eye opener. Quite a few escorts have told me that they have never had a really scary experience with a client, and - if true - this shows how fortunate they were. A lot of scumbags out there!
Well done to that lady for being brave enough to go to the gaurds and persue a prosecution. What a sick, cowardly man, I don’t understand how having no previous convictions and having maintained employment can have any mitigating factors, this is a true example of this deviants character, what’s to say he hadn’t done the same thing before? He did this in a sober state and went to great lengths to intimidate and threaten the lady. He rightly deserved to be jailed.
