Question The Soap opera forum- is it the e-i "toilet"?

What do members think? is soap opera the e-i toilet, as its been called? should a thread be moved there from gen chat if it deemed too heated or OTT even after so many pages? toilet or not? what do you think?

Default Moving threads which wander off topic

It doesn't really make sense to move threads to the Soap Opera section when they wander off topic. The Racist Escort thread started as a discussion of an important issue directly related to escorting. Moving it makes those initial posts less likely to be read. In addition, threads often move back on topic. Dolly and Alyssa have now moved that thread back in its initial direction, but their posts are in the Soap Opera section with the rest of the thread.

I would say that moving threads should be reserved for cases where the initial post is to the wrong section. People who violate site rules should be warned and then banned, temporarily or permanently, but that's an issue of posts rather than threads.

Try and make an allowances for newbies, not everybody is an IT expert, take myself, I'm learning all the time, I'm kind of envious of the way some members can handle the computer, with all those funny little sketches and logos and various photographs posted,
I could express myself much better if I could make use of some of these facilities.
So don't go too hard on members who make mistakes, I'm sure it's not deliberate.
Just keep the filth acoming, after all that's what we're here for.

Soap has ended up as somewhere to move stuff that does not belong there but also does not perhaps belong in gen chat but if you look at the sub heading under general chat it says “general discussions” it does not say it is only to have purely escort topics posted on it so who can blame anyone for posting anything on it? I have yet to move one single thread out of there to any other section as for me the word general means just that. We need a halfway house between the two. Perhaps a section for humorous threads and miscellaneous topics.

If people want all threads to stick rigidly to the topic first posted on it that will result in a huge amount of either deleted or moved posts as almost all threads here veer off in different directions and that is one of E-I’s strengths I think and is not a weakness. Its people taking up something said and running with it that gives the place a fluidness that does not exist on IIE. IIE reminds me as being like a panel on questions and answers and is far to rigid and structured but whatever the forum wants here is fine with me and if a consensus was reached that threads should stay on topic from start to finish then so be it.

Default Like i said when i modded

its all down to a mods interpretation of a situation which may or maynot be right regardless. All a mod can do is make a best judgement. Its open to criticism anyway.

The racist escort thread was the first one in months with any level of interest to move it to soap opera says a lot about how Ric views the forum given his embarrasing appeal for wanking material is still in General chat.

It seems to me that Ric is more interested in keeping the place quiet than in actually facilitating an interesting discussion.

Yeah the thread had moved on from the original topic but FFS how interesting would 90 + posts of
    yeah its terrible
    followed by
Well an escort can see who she likes
    be.

As for it getting OTT and a little heated jesus this is supposed to be a site for adults personally I don't think it was that heated or OTT but if the Mod in question thinks it was highlight what your talking about and ask people to calm down.

Default Sending the topic to soap section is tantamount to censorship

From time to time a decent topic for debate comes up on the site.

The particular subject Racism was such a topic.

Obviously with such a sensitive topic things may be said that some people don't like.

However better these subjects out in the open and hear what people have to say than censor the subject by putting in the soap section.

Who reads anything there anyway ???

I think things should only be in, or be moved to, the soap opera section if their content is the same as the name suggests, a soap opera, ie. rubbish....

To be honest I didn't notice it had been moved untill I read the post stating it.....I generally just log in and go for the new posts button and it brings up all new posts from all sections...

Personally I don't think this one needed to be moved but when it comes to this kind of thing, for a mod, it's a judgment call.....

As I say, it doesn't really affect me...... Didn't think it was a big deal anyway.....

It's not censoring the subject putting it in the soap section. It really makes no difference moving it there as people can still post and view it. There are 15 pages and counting on it.
Help Keyla in her fight with cancer. Every little helps.
