    Question whack-a-mole

With all these new user accounts popping up mysteriously closely after an aggressive poster or a troll gets banned - is there any way to moderate these accounts?

It is so obvious who they are and yet they just spring up like weeds. Are there any moderation ideas - like new accounts cannot post for X days, or first X posts are not displayed until released by moderators?

Another option to look at the frequency of posts? I don't post that often, but if an account that opened only a few days ago is racking up the posts in rapid succession?

And for the "backup/reserve" accounts - if an account hasn't logged in for, say 3 months, can't it be made dormant so that the moderators have to treat it like a new account again?

This might help keep some of the trolls away and ease the frustration of other posters who end up tempted to respond, retaliate, and end up getting posts deleted or bans themselves.

Any thoughts on this or plans at all?

The mods could start listening when multiple regular contributors highlight potentially troublesome newbie accounts.

I think in fairness they do, at least now they do, but wouldn't it be better if there was an inherent deterrent built-in?

Of course. It shouldn't have to fall back to users correcting the system.
