Default singing from the same page?

There seems to be very different moderation at nighttime from daytime. Indeed one.might say they as different as night and day!

Is it not the same training or can it be made for a little more consistentcy?

    Thank you for listening

They are new so give them time.
They also are not full mods , so the will lock or deleted , edit threads , give temp bans for the Day time mods to look at and then they decide what action to take

Night moderation is a case where the site listened and responded well, and It has definitely helped to reduce aggressive and ugly threads. You are always going to have people seeing things differently, but the main thing is to nip nasty or harmful stuff in the bud.

    hello Bedders,

It is a very valid question and I thank you for it.

As other users said above, Night Mods are partially trained as they have also different admin duties to attend to and are assisting our advertisers manning our 24 hrs call centre.
Their main objective on the forums for them is to stop arguments, look out for 10 post wonders, spammers, etc.

The training has been provided, but to put it in a perspective they are here on their own, without a more experienced fully trained day time mod present to assist when they are unsure about a decision.
They act and notify us of any incidents and we make the final decisions in the morning.
Hence the apparent "lack of consistency" if I come in the morning and reverse their decision.

I am happy to hear that the forums at night are a quieter place where users are not subjected to that much bad energy from trolls and spammers.

Moderating forums is a unique experience, can be very rewarding but might be overwhelming at times.
It is like coming in to a big party, where everyone is friends and you hardly now the host, not even to mention fellow guests.
They want to participate, but it does take time to get to know everybody.

Allow them time to familiarise themselves with you lot, they are a really lovely bunch and they put a lot of heart into their work.

    Xxx

ok, I shall try layman's terms:
closing thread = temporary measure ( ad hoc ) to stop users from getting themselves in trouble if they carry on fighting.
If we think in the morning that the thread was beneficial to the community and want to give you the chance to carry on talking, then we take a gamble, even thou the arguments might continue we prefer to open the thread. FOR YOU.
believe me, if I was thinking about me and myself only, I would keep all the threads closed

There's also the fact that it's difficult to read context from a text forum post, so 2 perfectly reasonable intelligent people can take something said completely different.

Just look at Howard's infamous 'removing the condom thread' where to most it was obvious he ment removing the used condom after sex, but a couple of people including our Lu took it to mean removing the condom during sex and it got a few people's back up for nothing. Such is the joys of the written word.
