It's the reality for a lot of organisations, breaching protocol because of time constraints. Nothing that a month's internship at Big Pharma wouldn't sort.

15 years ago I done work experience for IT in a government agency. So so many post it notes with the password stuck under the keyboard tray or even just stuck to the bloody monitor

I'm glad I didn't pursue the field, I couldn't deal with lusers.

I recently worked overnight in a government office where all the computers were left on standby and sensitive information was visible at the move of a mouse. We needed to move desks to do our work and contacted the caretaker re turning off the computers in case any info was lost as we needed to cut power. We were then told that we would have to leave our work until after a certain time, which was well after the cleaners finishing time, as the computers needed to be left on until auto backup.

That's a legitimate concern, but it's typical government where maintenance dept dont talk to IT who dont talk to building services so nobody knows a fuck whats going on
