Default Being overweight = unhappy ?

If people had a magic wand and could pick whatever body shape that their own body is actually reasonably capable of producing, would you choose your current body shape ?

If not , why haven't you changed it for the better ? Are you unhappy or is your morale just not high enough to motivate you ?

My guess is that were the prize to be sufficiently attractive , 90% of people would find it relatively easy to achieve a much better body shape and health.

No, and for the last 18 months I have been.

Depression stemming from years of familial abuse [including getting the shit kicked out of me for leaving anything on the plate because "I fucken worked for that food"] that shoots your self esteem to hell. If you are at the point where you genuinely believe that you're a worthless piece of shit, what the point of caring if you truly believe that nobody could ever give a fuck about you? Stuffing your bake till you cant move is a comforting feeling, until it spirals out of control, leading to needing more comfort and feeling more shit because you just keep getting bigger.

Obviously my case is my own, but it can be a difficult dive to pull out of. Generally in society if you hear of someone anorexic you don't just tell them 'go eat, its easy' but when someone is a chronic overeater, society tends to scoff and assume they're just some selfish prick with no self control. Have you any idea what it's like to go into a gym to have some lean muscle cunt laugh and ask "what the fuck are you doing here?" Soul destroying, that's what that is. Makes you just want to head back home via Maccy D's for that sweet sweet comfort.

My own journey over the last 18 months hasn't been easy. I'm about 1/3 of the weight down that I need/want to be, and having to go out any buy a ton of new clothes because most of my old shirts are tents is a pretty nice feeling. Shows there's light at the end of the tunnel. The fact I can now go on a 6+ mile hike and not come back with the feet cut off me, ankles fucked and knees swollen is fantastic. But to get to this point, over the hump so to speak to be able to see how it could be, was the hardest part.

    You see it is complicated.

My weight goes up and down a lot but I am always around a size that I can live with and feel good about the way I look.

I tend to reward myself with food (you did well you can eat it) or cheer myself up with it (your day was shit, you deserve it).
It is a very dangerous approach. When I am down I can easily spiral out of control and I am done. Then I would have to catch up in the gym for months.
If you are seriously depressed you don't care that you live in filth, that you wear dirty clothes, that you smell and certainly you do not care how you look.

Not everyone can lift themselves up from that.
Sometimes looking good is a motivation in itself, but if you had been subjected to abuse or are severely depressed it is just not enough.

And yes, you do it to yourself. Sometimes because you want to punish yourself, sometimes because you just want to hide.

but answering your question " Being overweight = unhappy ?" NO.

Not everyone overweight is by default unhappy.
Not everyone slim is a happy person.
Happiness starts within you, not on the outside.

But once you are happy inside, you are glowing. It does then show on the outside.

That right here. Then you have shit for lunch so "today is gone I'll have that fish supper for dinner" then by Wednesday it's "well this weeks a bust I'll start again Monday" and it's never ending

I wouldn't have believed that when I started sorting my shit out, but I know exactly what you mean. Money can't buy that feeling.

Two of my friends are overweight, one is 18 and half stone at just 19 years of age, he is even more talkative than me, goes to nightclubs and chats up the girls and can drink us under the table. He is definitely a happy person inside and out and smart too,

I'd always been thin. I could eat as much as I wanted and not put on an ounce of weight. Never really gave any thought to it until a few months back when I noticed my stomach had mysteriously developed a layer of fat. I lost my shit and had a mini midlife crisis. I became obsessed with getting rid of the fat to the point where everything else took a back seat. Everything. Eventually I got a handle on it . It wasn't easy, I had to make a lot of changes that caused feelings of deprivation and resentment but you pass a point where those things don't matter anymore. Its given me a new respect for anyone struggling with weight issues.
