I am Irish but have been asked a few times if I were Irish, usually by someone not in the country too long and thrown by a regional accent, they hadn't encountered before. Though there once was someone, in the country long enough, who got aggressive on the phone and called me a robbing foreigner, ironic since they themselves originate outside Europe.
