    I have to say there is an argument for the death penalty in cases like this

    But that's not a punishment. Monsters like this need to have their human rights revoked. Put him in the most horrible and uncomfortable conditions possible. Limit his contact with other people. Make him beg for death, but never grant it. Monsters like this need to be treated as monsters, not humans. Death is not a punishment. Modern prisons for the most part (country dependent of course) are not punishments, they're all about reform and are more like poor quality hotels. There should be a global zero-tolerance approach to anyone who has such a high disregard for the life of another. This isn't a simple murder, it's barbaric.
