Would the Mac shop be better than an independent computer shop advertising they fix this and that??

You're probably better off going to a reputable dealer, than the independent ones. It's more secure and will probable give a guarantee. The down side it will probably be shipped away and could be 2 to 3 weeks before its fixed. Either option, I would clear all your internet history and also copy and remove any naughty pics you might have stored on your computer. These computer types can be nosy feckers
