Default Shatter tipped for senate as a Taoiseach Nominee

EX Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter who lost his seat in a vote splitting exercise is strongly tipped to become a senator as one of the Taoiseach's nominees. If this happens it will be a piece of good news as he was known to be opposed to the insane criminalise the punter bill and played a skillful game to avoid bringing it in under his watch!
Mind you it's passing is inevitable.
    Ride them on the beaches!

He might have made a deal to get the job.
Maybe not on this specific issue but to "play ball" in general.
You know the way politicians are.

Good news if it happens. I accept that the passage into law of this nonsense is certain now most likely before the end of the year. But Shatter may be able to in some way alter the content of the bill and ensure its final form is less draconian that may otherwise be the case. One further observation. The culture of criminalising punters is now taking on a distinct revenue raising perspective. For example, some US States now have police departments who use this a means of increasing funds and set out actively using sting operations to enhance revenue. This is achieved by issuing large on the spot fines to Johns unlucky to be busted. Most guys are more than willing to pay up to avoid a court appearance and all the inevitable fall out.
