    That's the thing abput the law, it's not using your phone, its having your phone in your hand, it doesn't even have to be turned on and your breaking the law.
    Also if you are caught texting while driving it's automatic you have to go to court, no penalty points and fixed fine through the letter box.

    • €2,000 maximum fine for a second or subsequent offence
    • €2,000 maximum fine and/or up to three months in prison for a third or subsequent offence within a twelve month period.

    I collected 2 points for using a phone while driving a couple of years ago. The issuing garda said he had been behind me from the time I received the call and that if I had puled over once the road widened, that he might just have wagged his finger at me. I agreed that I deserved the points as I had driven at least half a mile without seeing him or his bike while talking on the phone.
    My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
    So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.
