Default Update On Progress Of Laura's Case

Those who have been following Laura's legal challenge will remember that, at a hearing in March, proceedings were adjourned till 26 April to allow consideration of the correct respondent(s) in the case.

The Department of Justice was originally named as the respondent, but papers were subsequently served on the Northern Ireland Assembly owing to the legislation’s origins in the chamber.

The legal proceedings were described as being “in uncharted waters”.

On 26 April an agreed position was put to the High Court at a hearing before the senior judicial review judge.

The Northern Ireland Assembly will not play a role in proceedings and the case will progress to a contested leave hearing with the Department of Justice remaining as a respondent and the Office of First Minister and deputy First Minister being added as a respondent.

No date has yet been set for the hearing but Laura's solicitor Ciarán Moynagh has said it is hoped that it will be before the end of June.

The case will now be heard on September 23, plenty of time for the Southern version of it to be slyed in beforehand!

    September?????

Jesus christ this is insane. Goes to show how serious they're taking this, putting it back so far. Infuriates me, the ignorance. Thinking they know better than the World Health Organisation, Amnesty International, etc. That goes for both them twats up North and our own twats.
