    Default red traffic light

does everyone fall asleep when they pull up at a red traffic light?

seems to be very common and is terribly annoying when first car does not move off until the light is about to turn red again

A lot of cyclists don't even bother stopping.

Just blow your horn, loudly and repeatedly, and annoy even more people.

    The green lights are compulsory,
    The red lights are discretional.

I agree, I find Ireland the worst for this. Either they're texting, ogling women, doing their makeup, daydreaming, or picking their nose.

Sometimes I'm a few cars back and I wait for the drivers in front to give a wake up honk...but nothing. If this was Italy, France or Spain, they average time to give a honk to a dopey driver is 0.0005 seconds after the light goes green!

Perhaps they are being a tad over cautious and waiting for all the muppets who break red lights to pass through the junction

My experience in Portugal was horns blowing from 8 30am until 5.30pm.
It was hell and the traffic didn't move any quicker.
Ireland has it faults but its a long way from the worst traffic wise.
