the problem with accents
i recently did some work for a guy at the opposite end of the country,west cork.. Thank God most instructions receieved by email as i had not got a clue when speaking to him on the phone.
Any one else have a problem with accents, despite this being a small country.
I am amazed the girls can cope.It must be hard enough to guess what a new caller really wants and to have an accent on top, "fair play to them"!!!

No trouble with accents of any sort in English.
Funnily enough Irish people from my locality sometimes ask me to repeat sentences sometimes. More my enunciation than pronunciation.
Escorts seem to understand my talk very well though, if they have any reasonable command of English.

do you mean native irish (Gaeilge) or English (the queen's own /BBC PROPER)

For such a small country there is a massive difference in dialects and accents. From Wexford to West Cork/Kerry to Donegal to Antrim and everything in-between!
I have to admit I have struggled once or twice — mainly the further south west I have traveled. I was accused of having an English accent when in Connemara once — I'm from Dublin LOL
But as I have lived on this island all my live I should be able to cope with the different accents — but for those not use to listening to them it must be very difficult, especially if English is not their first language. I honestly don't know how some ladies manage to understand sometimes — they must wonder if we are speaking English at all!

The differences are evening out somewhat among younger people and even faster among what I might term '' middle Class''younger people.
The process has occurred and is occurring in Britain(loss or reduction in regional accents..
Connemara people probably call Dubs, West Brits anyway.

It's amazing the proficiencies many nationalities now have with English, especially the younger generations.
Thanks to the Brits and their world encircling empire initially, followed by the hegemony of the USA in world affairs since WW2,English has become the true modern Lingua Franca.

Think the regional accents in this country are still strong. Lived here a good few years now and still get baffled occassionally and just nod and say yes, and hope im not endorsing sex with your cousin is a good thing to do. The worst is when someone looks at u expectantly awaiting a reply and u have no idea what they asked. Had to walk away a few times after asking them to repeat it three times ..with a ' sorry havent a clue what u just said. Same in areas of UK mind. Yep ..the standard of English spoken by a lot of the girls puts us to shame
Depends. Sometimes I feel like I need subtitles from the way I talk, sometimes I feel like the other person needs subtitles. You get used to it at one point. Since I live in cork, I kinda got used to the accent and that makes it a lot easier when I travel around. If you can master cork accent you can understand practically everything xxx
