Default Erin Andrews - Is $55 Million Dollars Compo Too Much?

Superhot US TV presenter Erin Andrews was filmed naked by a stalker through a keyhole and the results are plastered over the internet. She has now got $55 million dollars compo. We ask if this is far too much money...What do you think?

    Sorry
But that's a rather silly question!

How much would someone, on that scale, get then for the loss of a limb or an eye?

why is the hotel liable, that is what I do not get?
so, if someone kills someone in the hotel's lobby, in the entrance, outside parking, etc, other hotel property, is that their fault too?
where does the responsibility start and where does it end?

Because they did not have as good a lawyer. Law works like that.
And Erin's legal team had to go after someone and the hotel was the easiest and the most likely to have insurance and so have the means to pay out.

I do see what you mean though.
Perpetrator had to bore a hole in the door peephole use the camera.
A “reasonable person” I would have thought would not have foreseen that.

“ if someone kills someone in the hotel's lobby, in the entrance, outside parking, etc, other hotel property, is that their fault too?”
I would think the lawyers would say yes.

“where does the responsibility start and where does it end?”
Anything that happens on your property they will try to get money for their client, and more importantly for themselves, if they can make any sort of argument at all.

too much Marty but i'd take it if I got it, , if you filmed me, an ordinary joe soap running naked through the E-I offices and then plastered it on the net, how much compo do you think I would be entitled to, I think the viewers who watched the footage deserves compo too for putting them through such a horrifying ordeal..

There are dangerous precedents for these sorts of civil claims, even in Ireland.
If your postman trips over his own feet on your property, he could claim against you or your insurance.

I know, It was more of a rhetorical question.

I dislike all this "attitude of entitlement".

McDonalds coffee was hot - compensation
    Slipped on pavement - compensation,
Opened the bottle and broke my tooth - compensation
    etc
    etc

so now we have "open by hand", "caution hot" and "slippery surface" type of warnings.
it creates a society of idiots and lazy people who believe they are owed things instead of getting those via their hard work.

this has gone creazy only because the fist claim was approved and everyone followed.

don't get me wrong, if Id knew I could get millions in compensation, I would do the same.

I blame the law that allows it.

    (rant over. LOL)
