    Yes but I tend to put the eggs in the cold water and then wait for it to start boiling. . Hence my problem . . When does the water start to boil ?

    Put eggs in cold water from tap, bring water to the boil, then off heat and wait three minutes. Immerse in cold water. You'll have perfect soft boiled eggs.
