The OP has his answer.
Those that use PMs are also more likely to respond to a name they can see something about eg quite a few reviews or whatever.
Also someone may not check PMs very regularly during the day. Phoning earlyish is best.
A PM may be of use if you are trying to meet someone busy. Use it to book ahead. If you get no response try phoning and if nothing there then forget it.
Busier escorts can sometimes get tonnes of PMs, needs something to catch their eye as lots of these messages may never amount to bookings or are semi abusive spam.
In most cases as well, escorts will appreciate not getting into long drawn out conversations with guys.
