Default Sexual Offences Bill (good news)

S.O. bill will fall tomorrow assuming Enda dissolves Dial and goes to park tomorrow. That mean Bill is gone until new goverment brings it back but even then it will have to restart whole process again. So unless something odd happens it looks like we can forget this politically correct madness for another couple of years. PHEW...

How far percentage wise has the bill progressed? I'm not big into politics, but my understanding is that the present parties are in power until a new government takes over, and in the past, there have been instances that a minister has signed things into law in the time between the election and the new government taking over.

Bill falls. Will have to be restarted by new Gov. Can't carry bills from one gov to next. Bill will have to go through entire process again. Also remember if F.Fitz is no longer justice minister will next minister be bothered?

What I mean is could this bill have progressed enough that F.Fitz could sign this bill, before the new minister takes over?

I'm thinking that something happened a few years ago where an outgoing environment minister signed something into law, before a green replacement minister took office.

It's a pity they tried to lump so much into this law. There were some good parts to it.

Child rape is already illegal mate. Only part of bill that make sense is internet grooming. Insulting to bring such behaviour into same realm as consentual sex between adults

Am I right that the bill would have made it easier to prosecute child rapists?

    Re OP,
Intrigued by your assertion that the entire process must start again . Is that assertion based on actual informed knowledge or mere speculation ? I would have thought that should FG /Labour and Indos are re-elected , a mere tinkering to the Bill would be sufficient to a decisive Dail debate and inevitable passing.

The only way i could see the Bill not passing during the next govt term would be if FG get the nod and Leo V becomes MoJ as he appears to oppose the crim of the purchase of sex on health/human rights grounds.

My own guess/opinion is that the Bill will still be passed by summer recess though it certainly would be helpful if Laura Lee's NI case would be successful by then.

Yes your correct. Will be the choice of the next MOJ to continue with Bill from current stage. Really the unknown is whether F.Fitz is MOJ again.

Bill can be started and amended by next government no matter who gets into power, its not that difficult and dont know where you are getting 2 years from, if it doesnt go well for Laura's battle in the north it will be brought up again very soon and pushed through
