that Spring began on the 1st. of February - well, I have never seen it published anywhere! Astronomically in the Northern Hemisphere spring begins with the equinox on the 20th. of March. It is also known as the Vernal equinox.

However from a Meteorological point in the Northern Hemisphere the official spring season begins on March 1st.

It is the difference between these dates that causes confusion - but either way we have a month to go before we see Spring

In layman's terms Spring would have been regarded as beginning on 1st
February . Would have learned this as a small child. Your other 2 dates are also valid of course.

Autumn 1 August
Winter 1 November

Well, I am not an expert in astronomy, nor am I an expert in meteorology so I would deem myself a "layman" with regards to such subjects — but I never regarded February as Spring! Usually it is one of the coldest months of the year! I was always taught in school that March was the month for spring.

Well, finally that's January done and dusted! It was one long depressing month - well, if was for me anyway.

On the plus side this is a leap year. According to an old Irish legend, St Brigid struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men – and not just the other way around – every four years. So no doubt I will be inundated with proposals from loads of gorgeous women

OK - I might as well dream here as any where else
