Default New Law To Be rushed thru today - maybe !!

Dail TV report on RTE 1 earlier the Minister said she would bring all stages of the new Bill to the Dail today if no party objected.

Hopefully there'll be someone in there to raise some of the legitimate concerns with the Bill. With an election looming I don't know how politically expedient that would be, but maybe just maybe, some TD will care enough about the lives of the sex workers of this country to open their mouth

Well done Clare Daly and other independents. Refuse to allow a complicated bill to be rushed through. A courageous move which could be unpopular with general electorate. Proof of the value of independents in parliament, and how antiquated the big party and whip system has become

I cannot give specifics here but my understanding is that an ammendment will be tabled next week to remove the criminalization of the buyer as its unconstitutional! BTW that doesn't mean that it will be removed!
Again, the real issue is that this mad insane law is first and foremost about making sex workers suffer!

Obviously hypothetically speaking , only if both parties were decriminalised would the Bill be acceptable - otherwise, its mere status quo to the current law which still would not be good enough.

Will be interesting to see if such an amendment would be tabled .

Needless to say, it would fail as the criminalisation of clients has been the only real objective of this element of the Bill - the safety or help for sex workers were merely the 'trojan horse' for the criminalisation of clients.

Clare Daly stated in the Dail yesterday
"Sex workers and important human rights organisations like Amnesty International have expressed significant concerns about this legislation, which absolutely deserves further scrutiny. That is why we opposed the proposal made earlier."

The discussion on whether to take all stages yesterday may be seen here:

ALL the main parties seem to be in favour of this bill.

Dail is due to end on Tuesday so I would be hopeful that the legislation will not get passed during this session.

I'm surprised Coppinger was sensible enough to demand that it not be rushed as her party The Socialist party has voted to support Sex Worker hating legislation in the last European Parliament when Baldy Murphy then an MEP voted for Mary Honeyball's proposal to make life hell on earth for sex workers!

Default This Insane Bill Will Also Legalize Same Sex Incest!

Apparently, one of the unintended consequences of this rushed badly drafted legislation will be to legalize same sex incest, whereas it will reinforce the outlawing of regular incest for males with related females and also for consenting females aged 17 or over engaging with related males.

Of course let us never lose sight of the fact that the extra stress and security issues sex workers will face because of the part of it relevant to us is very very much an intended consequence!

I think we may be incaecerating some of the wrong people in the secure units of our mental health facilities!
