Default Cold sores ... how does it work?

I know if you kiss someone that has a cold sore you'll probably catch it but can you catch it from someone giving you oral? And is it isolated to the mouth area or could you catch it from going down on someone that had it? Are some people immune to it?

    Just how contagious are they?

The main thing is you came here to an escort site for advice on a medical matter and not to one of those doctor types

You do NOT want anyone with a coldsore giving you oral. End of conversation Use a condom if you're concerned.

Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex, once infected, infected for life.

Affect mucocutaneous areas, such as lips, labia, glans of penis. Very contagious, sharing cutlery, cans, lip balm etc.

Stress can cause eruptions in the form of blisters and then scabs.

Best treatment is acyclovir cream as soon as you feel a tingling.

Twice daily application of acyclovir can prevent eruptions.

It's available over the counter in pharmacies.

I figured that the ladies would know as much as a doctor when it comes to risks of transmission. Besides, I'm not the one with the cold sore so I don't think the doctor would appreciate me dropping in with a bunch of questions. Maybe I'll just send the cat.

Thanks Kate. What about giving oral to someone that has a cold sore, is that safe?

No short answer. It is a virus spread by touch, and yes they can spread between mouth and genitals.

There are several types of the (Herpes) virus, some of which are nasty, but most not. Most of them, I think, are dormant most of the time with symptoms just appearing occasionally.

You can find out lots from Google, but unless very curious, just avoid intimate contact if either of you has visible sores.

I was told some years ago I have the virus or antibodies.
As said above once you get it you own it for life.

This said I don't remember ever having one.
    I never get them.

I know a friend of mine who seems to get them every 5 minutes. He has them more than he hasn't.

Seems to differ from person to person

Thanks Kate. What about giving oral to someone that has a cold sore, is that safe?
If you have kissed them first, then no you don't want to give them oral as you would be spreading their own virus to a different part of their body. If you have not kissed them and you don't have the virus... fill your boots!

To be fair, personally I wouldn't work with a cold sore and I would not take a booking from anyone with one, but you should really take great care with something like this as it is very easily spread.

If you get cold sores.. even once .. you have the virus.

When you don't have a cold sore, the virus is dormant and it is my understanding that in this state it is not contagious. However, I am open to correction on that.

A cold sore indicates that the virus is active. As soon as you feel the tingle on your lip apply acyclovir cream. It comes in a small tube and costs around €7 and is available over the counter. The original brand name is Zivorax but generic brands are also now available. The sooner the cream is applied the stronger its effect to the extent that if it is applied at the first tingle it is possible to stop the cold sore in its tracks.

The virus usually erupts when the immune system is weak through illness, being overtired or under stress and interestingly when exposure to strong sunlight.

I wouldn't advise going near anyone if you have a cold sore and I wouldn't advise allowing anyone near you with one. In fairness, I would expect that an escort with a cold sore would not work until it was completely gone.
