Angry Article in Limerick Leader about Sex Work in Limerick

    Just received this article:

    http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/lo...#ixzz3r5Hszpgo

(Inflammatory language aside) this article suggests that the sex workers who were working in the North are now working in the South, but fails to mention that the figures for people advertising in Limerick are consistent with year round figures for the last 4 years at least. The difference between the North and the South is because of changes in the North, not in Limerick.

The 'escort' agency mentioned is, i assume, EI, where Ann Sheridan has looked up available escorts in the Limerick area and reported on it as though it was something new.

    Thoughts please?

The usual streetwalker picture is at the top of the article.
The author of the article seems to be comparing advertisers, nort and south on the. EI. website only.
Armagh and Newry have smaller populations than Limerick.(and are within striking distance of Belfast).

Derry has a comparable population to Limerick but being in the UK will also likely have sex workers advertising on Adultworks and other sites(including a specific Northern Ireland escort website). So numberswise the author of the article is likely not comparing like with like
As in EI being the main website in the South but other popular websites operate in or serve the North.
And in my empirical view, numbers in Limerick have certainly not burgeoned since the NI legislation of June 1st.
One time, Autumn 2014 saw 84 EI Limerick ads.
At the moment seems to be staying at 55 to 65 or thereabouts.

May i suggest a strongly worded letter to the Editor,Billie? As someone of repute who has spoken to Dail committees in the past ,your words do carry weight .

It might also be worth pointing out that the overall nationwide figure of escort ads published on this site have dropped by nearly 25% from approximately 1,000 per day to approximately 750 per day OVER THE LAST 18 months i.e. figures have being dropping long before Morrow's Bill.

Its also worth noticing a thread that appeared on the General forum about two weeks ago CHEERLEADING Morrow's Bill as Belfast clients were delighted at the sheer numbers that were visiting Belfast.

Lastly , if demand was falling in Belfast ,then prices would inevitably dropped as per any demand/supply dynamic. Online prices haven't changed a jot.

Totally agree with alcatel .Maybe another reason is the economy in NI isn't as good as South and I do spend a lot of time there also if girls are coming in from Europe the Euro is worth nothing anymore and to get paid in sterling and send it back would cost too much.
However there doesn't seem to be a huge increase if any in numbers in Limerick maybe on street don't know. But probably just a reporter looking for a story

Nothing much on Limerick streets (and if there were I wouldn't be interested) compared to 1.5 years ago. Garda on street sting and occasional Garda activity probably put paid ti that.

Ann Sheridan should be a politician. Talk about manipulating numbers!!! So she doesn't quote for Belfast, which is the closest in size to Limerick (although I would hazard a guess could be smaller), but goes for small places like Newry and Armagh to compare figures. I am currently in Armagh and it's way way smaller than Limerick. They don't have the same size in population or accommodation for people to work from, so it is not comparable. Also the figures have not changed here either, as there have never been many working in this area, which is why I came here in the first place.

Also, why is she using a picture of a street worker, when she talks about 'online' sex workers. Does she think that we arrange bookings online and then go on to the street to meet them? Or does she think that sex workers that have no where to work from can afford to up route themselves and move from the North to Limerick to walk their unknown streets and work in Euro as a better prospect? Does she not realise that anyone working on the street is likely to be in a rock bottom situation and would need that money for food before getting a ticket to go down South?

It's very misleading and scare mongering and there should be a right to reply on that article so people can say what the truth is.

Derry also has Letterkenny across the road where it would be a lot cheaper for clients to travel across to and use Euro. I know in the past when I have worked there many of the clients I had were from Derry and taking advantage of the strong pound converted to euro.

56 escorts advertising on EI at the moment in Belfast.
The June 1st law does not appear to have impacted numbers.
Only really familiar with two of them.
Have noticed a couple of people mention a lot in Belfast recently with unverified pics and not allowing reviews.
With so many unknowns with few/no reviews, or not allowing reviews or having unverified pics, the potential must be there for someone trafficked /forced to be amongst them.
In effect my conjecture is that Morrow's law or whatever it's called may have increased the chances of coerced escorts being present.

It's simply rubbish. And dangerous, misleading, scaremongering rubbish at that. Why is it these puritan prohibitionists think their beliefs justify their tactics.
The Immigrant council is up there with the Taliban.
