From grinding noise sounds like hard drive blew , as its nearly the only moving part to make such a sound ,

You can google make and model find out what type of hard drive ide or sata , both will be 2.5 inch

Look on adverts for second hand one depending on size you may get one from 20 euro up ,

YouTube time and patience will show you how to remove and install new one

A lot cheaper than new PCs ,

Although I'm concerned about sparks I've worked with computers for years never heard of sparks come from PC

Sparks out of a computer can be rare, but one possibility is a failure of the power supply.

This reduces the mains voltage to the much smaller voltages used inside the computer. A rare catastrophic failure of the power supply transformer can cook the entire machine leaving little salvageable and can cause a fire.

You can get hard drive caddies that a hard drive can be placed in and used as an external hard drive through a USB.
If the hard drive is not buggered,and it was placed in one of these, it may be possible to retrieve your files.
But I don't like the talk about grinding noises. As "The truth" says, that sounds like a hard drive failure.
