Please tell me the Chat Room is a work in progress!

The old chatroom was very old technology (no longer supported or even being produced), our security team overruled this being reinstalled.

We may look at a different chatroom in the future but for now, this one is functional and safe and works across all platforms (unlike the java based ones),

the main thing with chat was is its live, currentley its just a chat log basically, theres no interaction, you dont even know who is in the room, all you know is a certain person was in the room in the last 10 minutes you dont know who is still there or who just left! currently its completely pointless, ones of the huge elements was that there was a way to have a private chat, that is now gone.

what you have is a forum of the 1990's masquering as a chat/an admin log

someone has completely missed the point of what chat is supposed to be, its supposed to be like a meetng place and in that meeting place as in life people have private conversations, theres none of that functionality with this currently, either the live element or the private conversations!

there is actually no reason to use the chat now, functionally it does nothing the forum cant do but adds nothing for it to warrant going into and therefore even deserve its own space on the website

i agree that the Java based module was very much out dated and not supported by a lot of devices.

I would however disagree that this one is "functional"! It does not have the same features as the old one. It was these features that people liked. It does not "function" in a way that the users of the old chat room like.

I am not against change - but if we are going to have change then I believe we should have progress at the same time. I don't see the new chat room as progress - even if it is more secure and works on more devices!

From the first attempt to the day of the change over and every day since this has been a total disaster,Is it not normal to test dummy sites and iron out the obvious errors before going online? Not wanting this to seem like a dig but on the other hand I would leave this off the CV when looking for further work.

I don't use the chat room much but after seeing the changes i won't be using it all now.

In its current format I doubt many will be using it

No! DevTeam has pulled out all the stops to get the site running well and took on board what people were saying. However that post sounds more like "that's what we are giving you now - take it or leave it"
