I wish people would stand up for what's right more often , things like that wouldn't happen on daily basis. I'm glad to know she filed a police report and I hopefully there will be consequences for that hotel.

The big issue is people stereotyping nationalities.

Generalizations like this disgust me. I remember reading on this site that the Irish were a dirty race that didn't wash themselves. I guess you can only wonder at the mindset of some people.

Facts are what is important not gossip, speculation, generalisations and so on

Unfortunately alot of the time the above come well before the facts because the facts can be boring and dull.

The other stuff is more exciting and more scandalous.

Forgive my ignorance, once in moment of empathy I tried to buy a big issue,I gave the lady a pound she wouldn't give me the magazine,I gave her another pound she still wasn't selling.
so I'm out 2 quid and I don't know what the big issues are.
I have no idea where she was from,or any of the beggers. I don't care where they are from. I feel bad for them. But I work everyday for my money.
But ireland was a lot nicer place before when we weren't accosted outside every single shop.

People are naturally tribalistic and form groups that can be discriminatory to outsiders/others and often make generalisations about others that can become mindsets. This can happen in a classroom not to mind between nation states.
This goes back to the earliest days of human culture (people/ groups competing for resources/territory).Many of our evolutionary cousins amongst the primates also display these deeply ingrained traits.
Romanians are all gangsters and gypsies (no they're not).
Belgians and Canadians are boring (really)
Irish are drunks or dirty or have large families (the last not so much anymore)
Americans are all fat or arrogant (many by a long shot are patently not).
English are cricket loving , tea sipping , Queen lovers (hmmm).
Scots are all tightwads (is that so)
French are arrogant (speak a few words of their language?).
Brazilians are all good footballers (is that so?).
Germans are hard working, efficient , timekeepers (probably are) .
Russians are very nationalistic (could be)
Scandinavians are paragons of social virtue with model societies (Swedish Model anyone)

And so the list could go on and on.
There may often be a small , grain of truth to some of these stereotypes but they tend to become overblown and overstated in people's minds.

The message I guess is to not judge a book by its cover or a race by its often erroneous national caricatures and stereotypes.

I'm mostly accosted by Irish charity "muggers" outside shops.
