I see just as many girls adverterising in the north now as there was in May. I dont know your circumstances but maybe you could risk it.

I have a feeling that PSNI are not enforcing it, because they were against it anyway. Also if a lady is established and discreet I think you'll be in safe hands.

It's a near impossible law to police and enforce...

Stop fretting, no need to drive anywhere..

The hierarchy certainly hasn't won this battle and it's easy to see why. Prohibition doesn't work. Look at the USA where (aside from part of Nevada) it's been illegal to buy sex for well over a century now, yet they still have huge numbers of sex workers. Look at Sweden where after 16 years, they're unable to prove any reduction at all in indoor sex work. Look at Iran, where sex workers can be legally executed, yet they're still there.

The point of this law is as Frances Fitzgerald says ''to send a message.'' The intent is to reduce the number of clients, thereby forcing sex workers to emigrate, find another job or take their chances with the next generation of nuns. In practice though, this law is virtually unenforceable.

What the legislators and NGOs are counting on are reactions like yours, where everyday clients are scared off. Everyone has to make their own decisions based on circumstances, but a bit of pre-planning and discretion goes a long way and to misquote a famous political leader, ''sex work isn't going away you know.''

A well respected provider tells me that there has been no fall off in business after the law was introduced.

The problem is people are scared to take that risk, we say the PSNI are not enforcing it but they are very prominent on the streets from what I see but we just don't know, who is to say any of us visiting an Escort in Belfast, Omagh for example could not end up being very unlucky, its a big risk the whole time but okay if you got nothing much to lose.

Was never a fan of this meme, seems appropriate here though.

One thing I can't understand about the new law. If now it's not illegal to be an escort in the North surely that means that any earnings should be declared to Her Majesty. So working as an escort is legal and the money earned should be declared in tax returns ???
I make this point because of a previous posters example of prohibition in America. Al Capone was the mastermind at that , and in the end he got caught for tax evasion because they couldn't prove anything else.
Apply the logic here in the escort world night not prove what might be going on but revenue will always get you. The people I always fear most are the Revenue Commissioners both in my business and personal life they are paid up to date in full and no corners cut.
So while everyone thinks nothing is happening all is quiet and normal I think it is policing itself. Marching season too they have been too busy for the last 3/4 months dealing with residents and getting ready for it. Same every year. Quieter times ahead though when that's over.
